Director Lee Jae Han: ‘‘Into the Fire’ Is My Ambitious Work’

▲ A press preview of the movie “Into the Fire” was held at Lotte Cinema in KunKook University branch on June 3. Director Lee Jae Han and cast members (from left) Kim Seung Woo, Kwon Sang Woo, Cha Seung Hyun, and Cha Seung Won pose for pictures.

Director Lee Jae Han: "I have given special attention to making visuals. I seriously considered every scene to make beautiful scenes.”

After the press preview held on Lotte Cinema Kunkook University branch on June 3, director Lee Jae Han had participated in the press conference and said, “I devoted myself to film every scene of this movie. This movie is my ambitious work.”

The movie “Into the Fire” is a blockbuster movie with an investment amounting to 11.3 billion won for production. Vivid and vigorous battle scenes and splendid images in the film are outstanding. Lee mentioned, “I was seriously concerned about making images. The scene that I made my utmost effort to make perfect is the last scene on a rooftop where four main actors come together.” He also explained, “The scene where the cast members fall down one by one symbolizes the tragedy of fratricidal war.” The movie “Into the Fire” was produced based on the real story of 71 student soldiers who took part in a pivotal bloody battle in the Nakdong River region in August, 1950, which was the most important battle between North and South Korea to decide the victory of the war.

The army led by Kang Seok Dae (Kim Seung Woo) had been withdrawn from Pohang to defend the Nakdong River area and left only 71 student soldiers behind. Jang Bum (T.O.P) was appointed as a company commander, but his troops periodically caused friction with other soldiers led by Kap Cho.

▲ Actor Kwon Sang Woo and T.O.P, who participated in the press preview held at Lotte Cinema on June 3, give their thoughts on the film.

Park Moo Rang (Cha Seung Won), a commander of North Korean soldiers who devastated the Youngduk region with his 766 guerrilla troops, disobeyed the Communist Party’s order to advance to the Nakdong River, instead secretly changing course into Pohang and ending up fighting with the student soldiers who were left behind.

The movie was caught up in controversy from the beginning. It had been released for the first time in a preview held at the Asia-Pacific Research Center at Stanford University. At that time, an old map shown in the beginning of the movie indicated the East Sea as the “Sea of Japan,” so it evoked much criticism.

Director Lee Jae Han urgently apologized by saying, “We were busy preparing for the final film, so I could not pay enough attention to the preview held at Stanford University. Everything is my fault. I am so sorry that we have caused a shameful thing and I really regret that.”

T.O.P debuted as a movie actor through this movie and he said, “I tried to be natural rather than act because I did not want to be seen as obviously acting. To be the 17 year-old Jang Bum, I did not care about my appearance and I just put all my energy into it.”

The concert, held June 3 at Yokohama Britz Hall, was sponsored by local restaurant chain Skylark as part of promoting their new Korean menu. The two groups have been advertising the food chain since last March.

T-ara and Choshinsung performed a total of nine songs at the concert, in front of some 1,000 fans who came to see the show.

However, T-ara member Ham Eun-jung was unable to take part in the concert due to her shooting schedule for SBS TV series "Coffee House."

T-ara, who debuted in July 2009 with the single "Lie" and "Wanna Play," is composed of Eunjung, Hyomin, Jiyeon, Boram, Soyeon and Qri.

They released their first studio album "Absolute First Album" in December 2009, which produced two hit singles "BoPeepBoPeep" and "I Go Crazy Because Of You."

Choshinsung is also a six-member group consisting of members Jung Yunhak, Kim Sungje, Yoon Sungmo, Kim Kwangsu, Song Jihyuk and Park Geonil.

After making their debut in Korea in October 2007 with the album "The Beautiful Stardust," they went on to release a mini-album in Korea plus two studio albums and seven singles in Japan. Their fourth single in Japan, titled "Last Kiss," peaked at No. 4 on the Oricon music chart.

Both groups gained popularity as their collaboration projects "TTL (Time to Love)" and "TTL Listen 2" became smash hits, dominating various K-pop music charts last year.

Taecyeon says "never dated anyone" since debut

Boy band 2PM member Ok Taecyeon [Asia Economic Daily]

Taecyeon of popular boy band 2PM has revealed that he has not had a single girlfriend since making his debut, dismissing recent rumors that he is dating Yoona of Girls' Generation.

The singer sat down for an exclusive interview Asia Economic Daily, held at a coffee shop in Seoul's Apkujung district on Monday morning, opening up about his personal life.

When asked what his first question to an actor would be if he himself was a reporter, the 21-year-old star responded, "I would ask if he has a girlfriend."

"I had one when I was a trainee [at agency JYPE], but I haven't had any girlfriends after making my debut," the pop idol said in response. "It's not like the agency forbids me from dating anyone, but strangely I haven't been able to get one."

Taecyeon and Yoona recently sparked dating rumors when they appeared as a couple in a promotional music video for a water amusement park.

He admitted that they are "close friends" but added, "We are both busy... We haven't had any chance to meet in private settings."

He also said he is "closest to Girls' Generation out of all the girl groups" but stressed that they had only met for work and "rarely met on a personal level."

He went onto say, "I know about the rumors surrounding me. But there are many that are totally out of the blue. It is amazing how such stories get made up."

Taecyeon, one of the members of idol group 2PM, recently made his acting debut in the KBS2 TV series "Sister of Cinderella" alongside actress Moon Geun-young.

"Cinderella" ends its run on the small screen tonight.

Super Junior member Kyuhyun [SM Entertainment]

Kyuhyun of Korean idol group Super Junior will be undergoing surgery to treat a middle-ear infection, according to agency SM Entertainment.

SM explained in a press release yesterday that the singer will be having the surgery today at a hospital in Seoul and taking several days off afterwards to recover.

Kyuhyun is said to have been suffering from the ear infection since his middle school days but was advised to undergo the surgery when the condition recently worsened.

Hence Super Junior will be performing without Kyuhyun for their scheduled appearances on KBS music show "Music Bank" tomorrow and MBC's "Music Central" on Saturday.

Super Junior -- composed of members Leeteuk, Heechul, Han Geng, Yesung, Kang-in, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook, Kibum and Kyuhyun -- debuted in December 2005 with their first studio album titled "SuperJunior05 (TWINS)".

They became a K-pop phenomenon across Asia, thanks to the success of their subsequent albums "Don't Don" (2007) and "Sorry, Sorry" (2009), and held two sold-out concert tours in 2008 and 2009 titled "The 1st Asia Tour - Super Show" and "Super Show 2".

The group, however, has been promoting their latest single "BONAMANA" as a ten-man band with three of its members -- Kang-in, Kibum and Hangeng -- taking a break from group activities.

"BONAMANA", the title track from the fourth record, has been sweeping various K-pop music charts since its release on May 10.
