Gu Hye Seon, Sandara Park are Close but Awkward Pals

Actress Gu Hye-seon, who debuted as a feature length film director, demonstrated her talents on the KBS 2TV talk show "Win Win" on Tuesday.

Her "secret guest" was Gu's close pal Sandara Park of the girl group 2NE1. Park said, "We first met when we were 20 (they are the same age) but I was in the Philippines for two years so we met on and off. It's been a while since we last met."

MC Wooyoung asked if the two were still a bit awkward with each other and Gu said, "We're close but I guess also a little awkward."

Park explained, "I'm awkward with everyone," but Gu defended her, saying, "Sandara is the purest person I know. We'll have fun one day and she still greets me awkwardly the next day."

Park in turn said, "We are opposites. I'm gloomy and barely talk but Hye-seon twinkles like sunshine. She's like my older sis sometimes. I'm very jovial in front of the camera but am a serious person in real life. It's hard for me approach people first."

Park also brought an old picture of the two shot when they were 20 as well as a friendly letter Gu sent to her when Park was in the Philippines.

Gu: Acting Career Helps Directing

Actress Gu Hye-seon debuted as a feature-length film director with her movie "Magic." Appearing on "Story Show 'Rock'" on KBS2TV Tuesday, she talked about how she felt reluctant as an actress debuting as a director.

MC Lee Ji-ae asked what she thought of her directorial debut. Gu said, "When I shot my very first short length film, I did worry that the staff would be prejudiced against an actress turned director. But there were no such worries working on a feature length film. Rather, being an actress, it was easier to get close with the cast members."

The chat with Gu was focused on revealing her honest thoughts and the directorial side of the beautiful actress.

She expressed strong feelings for "Magic," which opens in June.
She was hands-on throughout the process, from the script writing, which took three months, and the casting.
In a recent technical preview of the film, Gu showed up noticeably nervous but all the more determined as a director, saying, "I will do my best to contribute as much as I can for the advance of the Korean film industry."
Actor Kim Jeong-wuk, the main lead of Magic who appeared on the KBS2TV morning drama "I Will Give You All" that just ended recently, praised Gu, saying, "She didn't appear as a cute actress but a director in charge."

On the talk show, she also spoke about how some people view her various activities as a singer, actress, writer, illustrator and pianist as frivolous and ostentatious.  She said all the criticism helps her to improve and be more responsible about what she does.
Gu first gained public attention with her adorable looks when her photographs were posted on the Internet. She got her break in the hit drama "Boys over Flowers" and has debuted as a film director.
Story Show 'Rock' airs on KBS2TV every Tuesday night at 12:45 a.m.
