‘Cinderella’s Stepsister’ Comes to Happy Ending

The KBS2 Wednesday-Thursday drama “Cinderella’s Stepsister” has drawn its curtain with a happy ending, contrary to wide expectations that it would meet a sad ending.

In the last episode on June 3, Song Eun-jo (Moon Geun-young) hides herself from Hong Gi-hun (Chun Jung-myung), although they have confirmed their feelings for each other. Knowing that her stepsister Gu Hyo-seon (Seo Woo) loves him, she leaves a note asking him to take care of Hyo-seon.

But Gi-hun tracks and finds her, and confesses his unyielding love for her.

Eun-jo’s family have also reconciled, as their late father Gu Dae-seong (Kim Kap-soo) wished. They look happy as they come out of a building talking and smiling after attending the wedding of Hyo-seon’s uncle.

In particular, Eun-jo and Hyo-seon come to truly understand and approve of each other. The two hold each other crying in front of a picture of their father to show him that they have now become like real sisters.

The drama was a modern interpretation of the old fairy tale “Cinderella,” with the focus on Cinderella’s stepsister. It became a hit, topping viewing charts until the 20th and final episode.

The success was attributed to the realistic portrayal of characters who had multiple sides -- both good and evil sides -- as well as the use of unique Korean items such as traditional houses and rice wine or makgeolli as settings and props.

Its stars also enjoyed attention and rave reviews. Moon Geun-young was able to shake off her innocent, cute image that she was known for with her role of a mature woman cynical about life. Chun Jung-myung made a successful comeback after more than a two-year absence due to compulsory military service. Seo Woo once again proved her potential as an actress. Ok Taek-yeon, a member of the boy band 2PM, showed a satisfactory performance, dispelling initial concerns about his debut as an actor. He played a boy who loved Eun-jo from childhood.

The show will be succeeded by “Bread, Love and Dreams” starring Yoon Si-yoon and Eugene.

Lovers Finally Have Dream-Like Date in ‘Cinderella’s Stepsister’

Two protagonists in the KBS2 drama “Cinderella’s Stepsister” have finally reconciled eight years after they became estranged and finally had a happy time of their own.

In the June 2 episode, Song Eun-jo (Moon Geun-young) and Hong Gi-hun (Chun Jung-myung) confirm that they still love each other and take a trip in a car without setting a destination. Gi-hun suggests that they think of 10 minutes as one year and spend 80 minutes thinking only about themselves to make up for the lost eight years.

The two pretend to return to eight years ago when they met for the first time as a tutor and a student. They do not have to worry about parting, hurting each other and facing reality.

△ Scenes where they take a trip together

As the clock ticks, Eun-jo enters university and makes Gi-hun jealous when one of her seniors shows interest in her. He stops her from going abroad to study and proposes to her.

The 80 minutes is up, and it is time for them to return to grim reality, as Eun-jo says in a monologue, “Our fairy tale has ended.”

Gi-hun makes a deal with his brother for Eun-jo’s company. He tells his brother he will not report illicit wheeling-and-dealing in the family business to the police if he gives up taking over Eun-jo’s company. But a staffer of the family’s company, feeling guilty about keeping silent, spills the beans, and his father and brother are arrested.

△ Scenes where they kiss in tears

Hearing about it, Eun-jo goes to see Gi-hun to comfort him, who is overwhelmed with guilt about the incident. She holds him warmly and says, “When my stepfather told me that I could count on him, I was happy to know that I have someone to turn to at any time, even if I didn’t say so to him right then. You can count on me now. I will be with you.” And embracing each other in tears, they kiss.

“Cinderella’s Stepsister,” which became a hit, aired its last episode on June 3.

Ki Hoon and Eun Jo Meet Again in ‘Cinderella’s Step Sister’

Eun Jo, who is poor at exposing her feelings, could not control her emotions towards Ki Hoon and ran into the street to embrace him. When this touching scene was aired, it attracted every viewer’s attention.

On this episode of the KBS 2TV drama “Cinderella’s Step Sister,” which was aired on May 27, Ki Hoon gave four tips to Eun Jo to help her find a solution to save Daesung Chamdoga, which will face another problem. Eun Jo was puzzled at his tips at first, but the very next day, she could understand the situation when the heads of the family came to her and noticed that they would sell their shares of Chamdoga.

Eun Jo tried to stay calm, meditating on what Ki Hoon said to her, but she lost control of her mind when she heard her cousin's grandmother say, “How can you try to say something to us, even though your mother has shown such bad behavior?”

Ki Hoon comforts Eun Jo before he goes out to make a deal with Ki Jeong

Eun Jo went to another room and said to her mother, Kang Sook, while crying, “I will be beaten by people instead of you, but you have to go somewhere and never return. You will be a witch forever and I will be a daughter of a witch forever. But, I will be burned to death instead of you. Do not try to come back, ever.” Ki Hoon looked at her while she left this message to her mother and comforted her by saying, “I am afraid, too. But, I will not run away. Do not worry. I will come back after solving this problem.” Then, he tried to make a deal with his stepbrother Ki Jeong using a confidential document. But, Ki Jeong kidnapped Ki Hoon to stop him. Meanwhile, Eun Jo found a letter that Ki Hoon had written eight years ago and went out to find Ki Hoon. After seeing his car empty, she was filled with a sense of foreboding, so she looked at Ki Hoon’s computer and found files that contained the recorded conversation between Ki Hoon and Ki Jeong. She became assured that Ki Hoon had been kidnapped by Ki Jeong.

She brought the computer and tried to deal with Ki Jeong. Eun Jo said, “Now I am in front of the Public Prosecutors' Office. Even though you will take shares of Daesung Chamdoga and the name of Daesungdoga has to disappear, I think what I am going to do is the right thing. My late stepfather might think the same way. I do not want to make him ashamed. If in fact Hong Ki Jeong kidnapped his brother, it might be big trouble for you. I will give you some time, and you have to release Ki Hoon and let him call me. If you do as I tell you, I will not say anything about you kidnapping him.” Eun Jo warned Ki Jeong by making this suggestion and Ki Jeong released Ki Hoon. Eun Jo was shaking with anxiety, but after a while, she could meet Ki Hoon again.

Ki Hoon said, “Who asked you to do that kind of thing? Open the window and let me look at your face.” Then he smiled at Eun Jo. By looking at Ki Hoon, who was across the street in the middle of rushing cars only to see Eun Jo, Eun Jo ran to him and held him tight. The scene raised viewers’ pulse rates.

Many viewers came to support Eun Jo and Ki Hoon couple’s happy ending after watching the warm and touching love scene. The conclusion of the drama and whether they can save Daesung Chamdoga, which is in danger, and whether they can be happy will be broadcast on June 2 at 9:55 pm on KBS 2TV.

Two Stars' Fate Uncertain in ‘Cinderella’s Stepsister’

Two stars have confronted each other in the same coincidental way as they did eight years ago in the Wednesday-Thursday drama “Cinderella’s Stepsister.”

In the 11th episode on May 5, Hong Gi-hun (Chun Jung-myung) goes to a temple after being tormented with feelings of guilt about the death of Gu Dae-seong (Kim Kap-soo), who treated and trusted him like a son. At the advice of a monk, he makes 3,000 bows to the Buddha repenting of his actions that put Dae-seong in trouble. He manages to come back to Dae-seong’s residence.

Standing against the wall at the door, Gi-hun comes to see Song Eun-jo (Moon Geun-young), who happens to come outside, just like it happened eight years ago when the two started to have feelings for each other. He calls her name when she tries to turn back and falls feebly.

When Eun-jo helps him stand up, he tells her what he has held in his heart. “I no longer deserve trying to be with you, but please let me take care of you and Hyo-seon instead of Dae-seong. I will do so as if I expiate myself before Buddha,” he says. Gu Hyo-seon (Seo-woo) is Dae-seong’s daughter and Eun-jo’s stepsister.
Eun-jo tells him that she does not understand what he means but does not want to know either, and that he should be good not to her but to Hyo-seon. She also expresses her regret for Dae-seong, saying, “I don’t like her [Hyo-seon] but if I am good and kind to her, I may be forgiven even a little and able to repay the love Dae-seong showed me.”

But towards the end of the episode, Eun-jo, sick of the cunningness and heartlessness of her mother Song Gang-suk (Lee Mi-sook), asks Gi-hun to run away with her from her mother, raising curiosity over the next development.

Another Heartthrob Featured in ‘Cinderella’s Stepsister’

The KBS2 drama “Cinderella’s Stepsister” has featured many scenes with heartthrob Han Jeong-woo (Ok Taek-yeon), who has cherished feelings for Song Eun-jo (Moon Geun-young) from childhood as a son of the man who Eun-jo’s mother lived with.

In the April 22 episode, Jeong-woo sees Eun-jo running out of her office after a scuffle with Gu Hyo-seon (Seo Woo) and follows her. He picks up Eun-jo and runs, saying, “You are getting out of breath. I will run for you.”

When he stumbles over a stone, Eun-jo holds his neck more tightly, and this makes him so happy that he runs even faster without appearing tired, like a child.

Sitting on a riverbank, Eun-jo quietly smiles thinking about Jeong-woo’s unexpected action. Jeong-woo wants to cheer her up, so he does funny dances in front of her. Eun-jo, as he has intended, happily laughs and talks about his childhood when she took care of him.

Hong Ki-hun (Chun Jung-myung) watches the two together from a distance and feels annoyed and jealous, as a love quadrangle is developing between the four protagonists.
Gi-hun, who has not taken Hyo-seon’s feelings for him seriously, is baffled to know that she is serious. He finds himself at a loss when Hyo-seon confesses that she loves him despite any insults and humiliations she receives.

Eun-jo, who realizes that Hyo-seon truly loves Gi-hun, also tells Gi-hun that she owes a lot to Hyo-seon’s family and that she will not forgive anyone who hurts them. “If you ever do something that hurts Hyo-seon, I will kill you,” she adds. This makes Gi-hun feel more confused as the two have hurt each other despite the feelings they cherish for each other.

Beautiful Scene of ‘Cinderella’s Stepsister’ Impresses Viewers

The episode of the KBS 2TV drama “Cinderella’s Stepsister” that aired on April 8 showed a beautiful scene -- just like a scene from an animation -- to express the change of Eun Jo’s mind (Moon Geun Young).

In the episode, Eun Jo had a big fight with Hyo Sun (Seo Woo) and was flogged by her stepfather. But, she never admitted her fault. Ki Hoon (Chun Jeong Myung) was looking at her unbending attitude and took her outside. While Eun Jo was listening to the sound that came from a liquor making jar, Ki Hoon took care of her injuries. At the moment, Eun Jo opened her mind to Ki Hoon and said to herself, “I cannot feel any pain on my calves. Even though they are bleeding, it is not painful at all. I do not know why. My heart is so light that it may reach the moon.” Along with her monologue, bubbles came out of the jar one by one. Then, the beautiful scene was created and caught the eyes of many viewers. Two people entered the bubble together and flew to the moon in the bubble.

△ Eight years later, Hyo Sun makes a surprising announcement that she is seeing Ki Hoon.

However, Hyo Sun snatched the letter that Ki Hoon had written to Eun Jo before he had left, so Eun Jo and Ki Hoon had to part. After eight years, Eun Jo has grown up as a dignified representative of Daesung Chamdoga. On the way from a company presentation, Eun Jo accidently discovered the photo exhibition of photographer Sohn Sang Ki, whom Ki Hoon once said that he liked, and entered the exhibition. Inside the gallery, she met Hyo Sun, who threw her into confusion by saying, “I and Ki Hoon are dating.”

How the story unfolds regarding the complicated relationships of these people can be seen by watching the drama, which will air every Wednesday and Thursday at 9:55 on KBS 2TV.
