Lee Junki Reassures Fans Not To Worry About His Injury

Despite a forehead injury, Lee Joonki attended a press conference?for the musical "Voyage of Life"?at the National Theatre in Jangchoong-dong of Seoul on August 24th.?

Lee Joonki starred in the special musical production on its opening day (August 21st) with bandages wrapped around his head. However, despite his apparent injury, he gave the performance his all, receiving quite an applause at the end of the show.

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki, who is currently serving in the military, has been cast in an upcoming musical production tentatively titled "Voyage of Life," according to a press release by the show's PR manager on Thursday.

"Life," co-produced by the Ministry of National Defense and Korea Musical Theatre Association, is a special production commemorating the Korean War.

Hallyu star Lee Jun-ki, who today completed basic training as part of fulfilling his two-year military duties, has been selected to work as a celebrity military officer for the remainder of his serving period.

According to Korea's Defense Media Agency on Friday, the actor was discharged from the army training camp after completing a five-week course and was be assigned to the PR unit in the agency.

"Private Lee Jun-ki is a talented actor who led a hugely successful career in film and dramas before entering the military and is adored by the public as a multi-talented entertainer," an official at the government agency was quoted as saying. "We handpicked him so that he can use his talents for various programs in the agency."

Some of the promotional activities planned for Lee include hosting military television shows and radio programs with other PR officers and visiting Korean soldiers serving at the front and rear lines of the military zone.

"We expect him to do his best to boost the morale of military personnel as well as fulfill various cultural desires," the official added.

The actor appears to have turned into quite the star in the military as well; he has been chosen as one of the four officers out of some 900 soldiers to receive an award from the head of the military training camp.

Lee, best known for his role in the 2005 pic "The King and the Clown", had been shooting the film "Grand Prix" and set to appear in blockbuster TV series "Faith" when he was notified by the government to report to the military.

He initially tried to defer his entrance date in order to finish up the shootings, but pulled out from both projects when he was unable to do so. He entered the military on May 3.

An upcoming Korean language learning book featuring Hallyu star Lee Jun-ki is already causing stir among his fans in Southeast Asian countries.

The book, titled "Hello~ Korean," was written by two authors and features the Korean actor who participated from the early planning stages, offering his ideas and lending his famous voice free of charge for its narration.

"We are receiving an enormous amount of phone calls and emails asking about the book ever since news got out that Lee Jun-ki had taken part in it," an official at publisher Mari Books was quoted as saying.

The official explained that while a majority of inquires are from fans and publishing companies in Asia including Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia, several colleges and language schools in the region are said to be asking about using the book for their Korean classes as well.

The traditional language learning textbook will be available in four languages -- Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese.

"Hello~ Korean" will be taking advance orders at online bookstore Yes24 starting this Friday and available at offline bookstores from May 26.

Lee, 28, became a household name throughout Asia after playing a woman-like clown in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown" and starred in many notable television dramas including "My Girl" (SBS, 2005), "Time Between Dog And Wolf" (MBC, 2007), "Iljimae" (SBS, 2008)" and most recently "Hero" (MBC, 2009).

Lee Joon-ki Starts His Military Training

It was a sad for fans of actor Lee Joon-ki, as he had to answer to the call of his country through serving his mandatory military sentence. Lee showed up on May 3rd, at 1 PM in South Chungcheong province to start his training period. Lee, who is 28 years old, had 500 fans show up to support him.

Fans of the star from the hit film "The King and the Clown" came from all over including Korea, Taiwan, Japan, China, and Hong Kong. Lee was so moved by the love and support that reports indicated he appeared to be teary-eyed.

Lee expressed his gratitude towards his fans and said that though it felt strange to have to say good-bye, that he'd do his best during his sentence. He talked about the project that he was signed on for until recently (due to his military sentence). He said that though he was sad about not being able to participate on it, he didn't want to push off his mandatory service any longer. He apologized to his fans for pulling out of the movie and assured them that he would return with an even greater project. He continued on to say that as a Korean male, this was something he had to do. When asked if he was planning on entering the separate military sector designated for celebrities, he replied that he didn't know and that it wasn't up to him. He added that to make up for his late entry, he would serve his term even that much harder.

Lee had also participated in a photo shoot the day before before he cut his hair short for military duty. He said it was for his fans to see him one last time with longer hair.

The military training that starts May 3rd will last for five weeks before he receives his assignment. Lee Jun-ki fans will have to look forward to February of 2012 which is when he is set to be discharged.

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki entered the Korean army today, putting his acting career on hold for the next two years to fulfill his mandatory military duties.

The 28-year-old actor bid farewell to thousands of fans -- including many who flew in from overseas -- and reporters, who showed up at the Nonsan military training camp to see the star off.

With his trademark hair cut short to comply to standard military regulations, the actor appeared teary as he saluted his fans and apologized for his sudden departure and having to drop out from his prior work commitments.

"This is very sudden but I am not too overwhelmed.. I feel relieved and excited.." the actor said. "I am sorry that I made the announcement rather suddenly in regards to work and the fans."

Lee, who was notified by Korea's military services to join the army during the year, had been trying to defer his military entrance date in order to wrap up shootings for the film "Grand Prix" and blockbuster drama "Faith".

It was only last week that the actor found out he had no choice but to report to duty by May 3, and decided to pull out from both projects.

However, the actor, although "very disappointed," maintained a sense of humor about one thing. "I am going to eat everything I want when I go to the military. I was on a diet even until yesterday but now I can eat everything from Chinese noodles, Kimchi stew to hamburgers."

The actor will receive basic training at Nonsan camp for five weeks and later be assigned to a military base.

Lee, 28, debuted in 2001 as a model for fashion brand "SO BASIC" alongside actors Gang Dong-won and Kim Hee-seon.

He rose to mega-stardom after playing a woman-like clown in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown" and starred in many notable television dramas including "My Girl" (SBS, 2005), "Time Between Dog And Wolf" (MBC, 2007), "Iljimae" (SBS, 2008)" and most recently "Hero" (MBC, 2009).

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki has revealed his feelings about going to the military next week, saying he is "looking forward to spending time [in the military] as any average man who has to fulfill his mandatory military duties."

Lee was quoted as saying the remark in a press statement released by his agency JG Company on Thursday, the response following the decision which has forced him to drop out of film "Grand Prix" and TV series "Faith".

The actor, who started shooting "Grand Prix" with top Korean actress Kim Tae-hee earlier this month, had been trying to defer his military entrance date to fulfill his current work commitments before joining the two-year service.

But after receiving a final notice from Korea's Military Manpower Administration to join the Nonsan training camp on May 3, Lee announced two days ago that he has decided to pull out from both projects.

JG apologized that Lee was unable to finish what he had been working on.

Lee, 27, gained fame in Korea and throughout Asia after playing a woman-like clown in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown" and most recently portrayed a passionate magazine reporter in MBC TV series "Hero".

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki will be leaving for the military next month, leading to a change of cast in a film and drama he was set to appear in before joining the army.


In a phone call with Asia Economic Daily on Wednesday, relevant sources from the film "Grand Prix" and TV series "Faith" said that they were casting an actor to replace Lee since he will be entering the military on May 3.

Last week, Lee's agency JG Company announced that the actor had received a notice from Korea's Military Manpower Administration but asked to defer his entrance date to fulfill his current work commitments before joining the two-year service.


Lee has been shooting "Grand Prix" with top Korean actress Kim Tae-hee since April 2 but it appears that he was unable to delay his military duties as he has now decided to pull out from both projects.

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki will be pushing back his military entrance date to fulfill his current work commitments, according to his agency JG Company on Monday.

According to an official at JG, Lee had received a notice from Korea's Military Manpower Administration to enter the army within the year to fulfill his mandatory two-year service.

"But he asked to defer the entrance date because he is currently working on a movie and television series," the official was quoted as saying. "Entering the military is something that should be and will be done without question, but I think he needs to finish what he has been working on before going [to the military]."

He added that final details regarding the issue will be sorted out sometime early next week.

Lee, 27, became a household name after appearing as a woman-like clown in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown" and most recently portrayed a passionate magazine reporter in MBC TV series "Hero".

The Hallyu star started shooting the film "Grand Prix" with top Korean actress Kim Tae-hee earlier this month and is scheduled to appear in SBS TV's 24-episode series "Faith" later in the year.

Lee Jun Ki Appointed Ambassador for Expo 2010 Shanghai

Actor Lee Jun Ki was appointed as the Korean ambassador for the Expo 2010 Shanghai which will be held from May to October in Shanghai, China.

His agency, JG Company, announced that KOTRA, which hosts the Korean Pavilion for the Expo, has selected Lee Jun Ki as the honorary ambassador and presented the letter of appointment to Lee Jun Ki inside the Invest Korea Plaza (IKP) located in Yumgok dong, Seoul on March 31.

The agency explained about his appointment, “KOTRA has selected Lee Jun Ki because he is one of the most popular Hallyu stars in greater China. During the Expo, Lee will attend every kind of official events to advertise Korea.”

Lee Jun Ki has been actively worked as an honorary ambassador of the Korea Tourism Organization and has also participated in publishing a Korean language book entitled “Hello Korean” with no payment received.

Recently, Lee has been cast back to back in the fantasy oriental medicine drama “Faith,” which will be directed by Kim Jong Hak PD, and movie “Grand Prize,” which will be directed by Yang Yoon Ho.

Kim Tae-hee, Lee Jun-ki to star in film "Grand Prix"

Top Korean actors Lee Jun-ki and Kim Tae-hee are set to star in a new film titled "Grand Prix", according to their agencies JG Company and Luah Entertainment on Monday.

Both agencies reported that the two stars have been cast for the lead roles and are waiting to sign the final contract for the film.

Veteran Korean actors Park Geun-hyung and Ko Doo-sim are reportedly in talks to play supporting roles.

"Prix", a sequel to the 2006 film "Lump Sugar" starring Korean actress Lim Soo-jung, is a story about horse racing.

The pic will be helmed by Yang Yoon-ho, who previously directed "Libera Me" (2000), "Fighter in the Wind" (2004) and "Holiday" (2005).

The film, which starts shooting this month or in April, is scheduled for release later in the year around the Korean Thanksgiving break.

Kim, 29, rose to fame after appearing in the hit SBS TV series "Stairway to Heaven" in 2003 alongside Hallyu stars Kwon Sang-woo and Choi Ji-woo and starred in blockbuster drama "IRIS" opposite top Korean actor Lee Byung-hun last year.

She has also appeared in several movies including "The Restless" with actor Jung Woo-sung (2006) and "Venus and Mars" (2007) opposite Sul Kyung-gu.

Lee, 27, became a household name after appearing as a woman-like clown in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown" and most recently appeared in MBC TV series "Hero", where he portrayed a passionate magazine reporter.

He will returning to the big screen for the first time in three years with "Prix" after having last starred in the Korea-Japan co-production titled "Virgin Snow" in 2007.

Lee Jun-ki to star in new TV series "Faith"

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki will star in an upcoming historical drama tentatively titled "Faith" in English, according to his agency on Friday.


The actor will play the male lead in the drama, playing a young student of Eastern medicine who grows up be a legendary doctor during the Koryo Period.


The series will be helmed by famed Korean director Kim Jong-hak, who is known for his blockbuster scale dramas such as "Taewangsasingi" (MBC, 2007), which starred top actor Bae Yong-joon, and "Sandglass" (SBS, 1995), which scored the highest viewership ratings in local television history.


Kim is said to have thought highly of Lee's solid acting and his status as a Hallyu star throughout Asia for the role.


Lee, 27, became a household name after appearing as a woman-like clown in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown" and most recently appeared in MBC TV series "Hero", where he portrayed a passionate magazine reporter.


In December 2009, he was voted top Hallyu Star of the year in a survey conducted by a Korean business news publication Finance and Economy News.

Hallyu star Lee Jun-ki has signed with JG Company INC., a newly-established independent talenthouse which will solely manage Lee's career.

"His contract with Mentor Entertainment ended late January and has now decided to join our company," stated a representative from JG on Friday.

JG will follow Hollywood's one-man management system where an agency focuses its efforts on a single celebrity -- from tending to his schedule to his promotional work to his legal issues.

Lee, 27, has been one of the most popular stars in the Asian region since starring in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown."

He has also appeared in several dramas including "Iljimae" and the recent MBC TV series "Hero" where he played the role of a passionate magazine reporter. He won the People's Choice Popularity award at MBC's acting awards last year.

Top Korean actors Kim Hee-seon and Lee Jun-ki are being considered as the main cast for a new historical drama based on medicine helmed by famed director Kim Jong-hak of the "Taewangsasingi" series.

"We are still in the process of discussing whether she will appear in 'Faith' -- nothing has been set as of yet," actress Kim's agency told Asia Economic Daily over the phone on Friday.

A source close to the producers of the show also said discussions are still underway with the cast to be confirmed by late February at the earliest.

Meanwhile, an official with a broadcaster said Lee's appearance in the drama has almost been set with the actor himself showing "great interest in the show."

The drama, tentatively titled "Faith," will be director Kim's comeback production set to air on the small screen near the end of the year.

Actress Kim, 32, has been one of the most popular actresses in the country since her debut in 1993. She was last seen on the screen in SBS' 2006 TV series "Smile Again" until she married in 2007.

Lee made a splash into the acting industry, appearing in the 2005 hit film "The King and the Clown" which is the second-most watched Korean film to date. His latest work was MBC TV series "Hero," which ended its run mid-January of this year.
