Gu Hye Seon, Sandara Park are Close but Awkward Pals

Actress Gu Hye-seon, who debuted as a feature length film director, demonstrated her talents on the KBS 2TV talk show "Win Win" on Tuesday.

Her "secret guest" was Gu's close pal Sandara Park of the girl group 2NE1. Park said, "We first met when we were 20 (they are the same age) but I was in the Philippines for two years so we met on and off. It's been a while since we last met."

MC Wooyoung asked if the two were still a bit awkward with each other and Gu said, "We're close but I guess also a little awkward."

Park explained, "I'm awkward with everyone," but Gu defended her, saying, "Sandara is the purest person I know. We'll have fun one day and she still greets me awkwardly the next day."

Park in turn said, "We are opposites. I'm gloomy and barely talk but Hye-seon twinkles like sunshine. She's like my older sis sometimes. I'm very jovial in front of the camera but am a serious person in real life. It's hard for me approach people first."

Park also brought an old picture of the two shot when they were 20 as well as a friendly letter Gu sent to her when Park was in the Philippines.

Big Bang & 2NE1 contribute to "YG Entertainment records biggest profit in history "

Yang Hyun-suk, founder and CEO of YG Entertainment [YG Entertainment]

YG Entertainment (YG) -- considered one of the top three talent agencies in Korea alongside SM and JYP Entertainment -- saw its most successful business year to date last year, recording the biggest profit the company has ever seen.

According to the annual audit report YG submitted to Korea's Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) on Friday, the agency recorded operating profits of 7.39 billion won last year with a net profit of 4.16 billion won, the company's biggest profit yet.

YG's total sales for 2009 was reported at 35.69 billion won, up a whopping 93 percent from the previous year to breach the 30 billion mark. The figure had continuously been on the rise since standing at 11.48 billion won in 2007 and 18.52 billion won the following year.

The increase can be attributable to the success of many of its artists including idol group Big Bang and girl band 2NE1, both of whom raked in significant income from their album sales, music downloads, commercials as well as earnings from the members' individual activities.

Meanwhile, SM stood at No. 1 in terms of net profit, posting gains of 4.47 billion won while JYP Entertainment (JYPE) reported a net loss of 4.08 billion won during the same period.

Industry experts explained however, that JYPE's net loss came largely from the company's significant investment in the overseas debut of popular girl band Wonder Girls, whose musical activities have yet to bring in profits.

YG, which stands for Yang Goon, was founded in 1996 by Yang Hyun-suk, a former member of popular Korean group Seo Tai-ji & Boys.

Yang is credited with creating and managing the successful careers of many K-pop artists including 1TYM, Gummy, Jinusean, SE7EN and Wheesung who started his career at YG but left in 2006.

The agency also manages several Korean actors including Kang Hye-jung and Ku Hye-sun of the "Boys Over Flowers" fame.

2NE1’s Hairstyle Generates Interest

Recently, girl group 2NE1 released their music video for “Try To Follow Me.” A month ago, it was revealed to be a CF song for the new Corby F phone, which the girls endorse. But it came as a surprise when YG Entertainment released the music video roughly a month after the song was released.

2NE1 has always been known to be a group that emphasizes the individual style of its members. Not surprisingly, this music video also showcased the members’ own, unique individuality, with the different splashes of color in the music video.

The music video showed all the members with their own, unique hairstyle. But none more unique than member Sandara Park’s bangs.

Since her debut with Lollipop, another CF song, Sandara Park has always had the most unique and crazy hairstyle that captures the public’s attention. Her strong personality coupled with her own style, color, and good looks have made several headlines already.

The operating director for fashion website, 0809 (www.la0809.co.kr), Yi Jong Mun, has this to say about Dara’s fashion style, “Sandara Park has a very nice head, which its round shape, any hair style would fit her. Even palm tree hair.”

“For this hairstyle, it showed her forehead and showed that her hairline is versatile, with the type of rolled-up bangs that she showed. I’m actually impressed that she managed to look beautiful with the unique hairstyle that she had. If it had been another girl, it would have looked very silly. It seems that only Sandara Park can pull it off like she did,” he continued. (OMG. Fan boy alert. Fanboying much, Mr. Director?! dry.gif – Belle)

Other members also revealed their personalities in the music video.

With a tie at the back of her head, Park Bom showed a hairstyle with the ends of her hair drawn to the front, giving off a feel of bangs.

Minzy showed her short bob, and with its intense color, it showed a very sharp image.

And with the side of her face decorated with shiny sequins, leader CL looked really mysterious. (I thought we were talking bout hairstyles?! Not “face” styles? Maybe the Lady Gaga-ish wig thingie didn’t count as a hairstyle? What do you think? No matter though, CL looked like the bomb with the sequins on the side of her face! Love it! - B )

“2NE1 always have a unique style that generates interest and creates issues. (I don’t think he means “issues” in a bad way.-B ),”
the Director continued to say, “Their style always screams out, ‘We’re 2NE1′ and that makes a lot of fans and people take notice and give good expectations for their activities.”

2NE1 self-choreographed for "Try to Follow Me" music video

The powerful girl group 2NE1's HD "Try to Follow Me" MV has been released.

For 2NE1's new song "Try to follow me" they have revealed another powerful, shocking new MV.

The hip hop song was used for an advertisement in which they appeared in and has an African rhythm that makes your body shake! The song was able to hit number one on various music charts without being even performed live once, and is an example of 2NE1's great popularity.

The MV was produced by the same producer as 2NE1's debut song Fire. The MV displays their various charms and has an African-style dance. It shows that 2NE1 isn't just another girl group that you can simply blow off, with their powerful expressions and overflowing charisma, and of course 2NE1's unique fun accessories and clothing.

In the "Try to Follow Me" MV, another interesting point is that the 2NE1 members, for the first time, made the choreography by themselves.

The 2NE1 members said "For one week, we stayed up late at night to practise. It was a bit tough but since it's the first time doing the choreography ourselves, we put more love into it"

Another interesting event is that this MV is up for download in HD. Since it is now the era of HDtv, YG strived to make it so that watching the MV through HD with clear quality would be more enjoyable.

2NE1 Debuts in Japan

Korean girl group 2NE1 made its Japanese debut in front of 24,000 fans who gathered for Big Bang’s concert in Japan. The four-member group took part in the sold-out Big Bang concerts, which took place at the Yokohama Arena in Japan on February 10th and 11th. 2NE1 belongs to the same agency as Big Bang.

Appearing as a special guest at the concerts, 2NE1 sang their hits, “I Don’t’ Care” and “Fire,” wowing the Japanese audience. The girls said that they were just glad to wrap up their appearances at the concerts successfully and hoped to have made an impression on the Japanese audience. 2NE1 had only two concerts to impress Japanese fans before returning to Korea. They were sorry that they could no longer join Big Bang on their Japanese tour concerts, because of their prior engagements. Meanwhile, 2NE1 has released a new digital single titled “Follow Me” on February 9th.
