Park Jin-young announces U.S. tour with 2AM

Official concert poster for Park Jin-young's U.S. tour with 2AM [JYP Entertainment]

Korean singer and producer Park Jin-young will be performing in two U.S. cities with his latest boy band creation 2AM later this month, according to a press release by agency JYP Entertainment (JYPE) on Friday.

JYPE announced in a press release that its founder and CEO Park will be performing in New York on May 21 and in Los Angeles two days later, as the U.S. leg of his tour titled "2010 The JYP Tour with 2AM."

Now into its third year, the annual "JYP Tour" has attracted sold-out concert crowds in Korea since first kicking off in 2008.

The upcoming U.S. tour, JYPE said, is an "upgraded version" of the original gig, organized especially for the Korean-American communities and non-Koreans interested in K-pop music.

"With strong support from the local fans, Park Jin-young is working even harder to prepare for the concert ," explained an official at JYPE.

The concert will also feature four-member band 2AM, who rocked various music charts earlier this year with hits "I Can't Let You Go" and "I Was Wrong." 2AM members are said to be excited about their first-ever U.S. performance.

Park, 38, debuted in 1994 with his first studio album "Blue City" and has since released six more full-length records and mini-album "Sad Freedom" (2009).

In 1997, he established his own record label JYP Entertainment where he discovered and trained many new talents, most notably Asian superstar Rain. He was also the creative mastermind behind some of the most successful K-pop groups such as G.O.D., 2PM, 2AM and the Wonder Girls.

Park has often remained a source of controversy from his early fashion style -- he was notorious for performing in tight leather or transparent vinyl pants -- to his outspoken personality and openly sexual lyrics.

However, the singer is largely credited with paving the way for Korean artists to break into the American pop market, where he has written a song for Will Smith and introduced the Wonder Girls last year.

"2010 The JYP Tour" will take place at Manhattan's Roseland Ballroom on May 21 and Wiltern Theatre in L.A. on May 23. Tickets will be available on www.powerhouselive.net.

2AM dethrones T-ara from singles chart

2AM members Jinwoon, Jo Kwon, Changmin and Seulong [JYP Entertainment]

K-pop idols 2AM have dethroned four-week winner T-ara with their latest single "I Was Wrong," taking their first win on the Mnet singles chart last week.

The new song by the boy band climbed a spot from the previous week to become the No. 1 single during the week of March 29 to April 4.

The four-man band had unveiled the song and a 10-minute long music video drama on March 15, the self-proclaimed 2AM day.

After School's recently released song "Bang!" made an astonishing 20-spot jump to second place and R&B quartet Brown Eyed Soul moved up 11 positions to the No. 3 slot with "I'll Move."

Meanwhile, the repackaged album "Breaking Heart" by T-ara held onto its title as the best-selling record for the second consecutive week.

Brown Eyed Soul's latest single album "Blowin My Mind" followed T-ara followed behind, pushing down 2AM's first full-length album "I Can't Let You Go" by one rank.

In a recent pictorial to be released in April, Seul Ong and 4minute go for a sexy but tough ever-revealed concept. Sporting Armani Exchange, their style reflects a kind of street dandyism.

Posing in a warehouse-like stage set, Seul Ong and 4minute wear denims and print t-shirts mixmatched with fresh items from the 2010 Spring/Summer collection.

The stylist in charge of the outfits stated "They are from idol groups but they managed to pull off a sexy and fierce concept. The clothes really fit them like a glove." Despite their busy schedule, they cheered one another and remained energetic, happy and confident during the photoshoot.

The photoshoot - in which 8eight's Baek Chan also featured - will be revealed in the April issue of Cosmopolitan.

Kwon, When Asked If He's Actually Dating Ga-in

Currently, Jo Kwon and Ga-in are the best couple on MBC's 'We Got Married'. If their air time is shorter than other couples, the discussion board becomes flooded with complaints. They received an explosive amount of love, enough to get first place on KBS 2TV's 'Music Bank' for their song 'We Fell In Love'. They also touched many people by donating 50 million won (approx. $50000) from the profits of the song to help out for Haiti's tragic earthquake. It wouldn't be surprising if they were a real couple because of the sweet atmosphere in 'WGM' and their actions outside of the broadcast as well.

Recently, in a location with reporters, when Jo Kwon was asked "Are you two actually dating?" he answered with a short "Yes". When asked a second time, he answered "No". Jo Kwon laughed while saying "They don't believe us if we say we're dating and they don't believe us if we say we're not". He continued saying "The more confused people get, the better it is" showing that he's enjoying the current situation. He also openly boasted saying "People don't know Ga-in's real charms".

2AM's Seulong, Jinwoon, and Changmin said "We're jealous that they're idols that can express the feeling of love" and "Jo Kwon's image that he shows on the broadcast is 100%".

'WGM2' which wasn't doing very well for awhile, received many remarks that the entrance of idol singers Jo Kwon and Ga-in was irrational at first. It was not that idol singers like Taeyeon and Kangin had not appeared before, but it was impossible for the virtual marriage of idol singers in their early 20's
to not be a burden.

'WGM' participants have tried to emphasize at least in the broadcast the roles as a married couple. It is difficult for 'WGM' participants to show their natural image in front of the camera unless they have feelings for each other. It is also true that most participants don't even contact each other, as they have stated 'We're a married couple on the broadcast, but in reality, our relationship is just for business'.

Compared to these couples, Jo Kwon and Ga-in aren't hiding their roles as a 'WGM' couple outside of the program. They seem to be just enjoying it fully without avoiding the virtual yet real concept of 'WGM'.

It looks like Jo Kwon and Gain's popularity will continue for awhile. The important thing is, like Jo Kwon's "Are we dating for real?", is that they maintain their will for their 'Half joke, half truth' feelings and actions.

2AM’s Seul-ong Debuts in TV Drama

2AM member Seul-ong is testing his luck in acting by joining the cast of new TV drama “Personal Taste.” At Monday’s showcase where 2AM introduced the music drama and music video for their new release “I’ve Done Wrong,” Seul-ong spoke about how he was nervous about acting in a TV show. He admitted that it was difficult for him, because he had never acted before. He had been a child actor, but said that he doesn’t remember anything about the experience because he was so young.

In “Personal Taste” he stars opposite of Sohn Ye-jin of “My Wife Got Married” and Lee Min-ho of “Boys over Flowers” and plays a spoiled rich kid. In the meantime, 2AM will release a repackaged album, “I’ve Done Wrong,” both on and offline and plans to continue dominating the music scene.

K-pop idols 2AM pose their new looks for the release of new song [Big Hit Entertainment]

Four-member boy band 2AM plans to reveal their new song in mid-March, according to a press release from their agency Big Hit Entertainment on Friday.

The announcement was made on the 2AM's official webpage earlier in the day, stating that a new song, along with its music video will be released on March 15, which they have designated as 2AM day. The song will go on sale online the following day.

"We have prepared a special event for 2AM day to promote the latest song and music video. On March 15, fans will be able to listen to the song online and see the music video on their iPhones, at subway stations or at a movie theater," explained a representative from Big Hit.

For the new track, the singers have finished shooting a 10 minute-long music video drama which will be shown at a movie theater in the district of Apgujeong in Seoul. Their new song and video will also be showcased at every subway station on 2AM day.

2AM, composed of members Jo Kwon, Changmin, Seulong and Jinwoon, made their debut in 2008 with the single "This Song." They are currently promoting their first full-length album "I Can't Let You Go" which features the title track of the same name.

2AM member Seulong to make acting debut

2AM member Lim Seulong [Asia Economic Daily]

K-pop 2AM member Seulong will be making his acting debut in a new MBC drama starring actors Son Ye-jin and Lee Min-ho, according to MBC on Tuesday.

Seulong will join the cast of the Wednesday and Thursday series to play the role of Kim Tae-hoon, the college junior of Lee's character Jin-ho, in the series tentatively titled "Personal Taste" in English.

"We chose Seulong for the role because of the bright and cheerful image he portrays on different variety shows -- exactly the kind of character Tae-hoon is. Even though this will be his first time acting, we know he will be a perfect fit for it," MBC explained.

The TV series, based on a novel of the same name by Korean writer Lee Se-in, is about a man living with woman who thinks the man is a homosexual. The show is set to air on March 31.

Seulong made his debut in 2008 as a member of the four-man idol group 2AM. The group is currently focusing on the activities promoting their first full-length album titled "I Can't Let You Go" with their title track of the same name.

2AM maintains hold on Mnet music chart

Four-member boy band 2AM [JYP Entertainment]

Boy band idols 2AM continued to rule music channel Mnet's singles chart with "I Can't Let You Go" for the third consecutive week.

The quartet's title track from their first full-length album has dominated online music charts since its release late last month and they have also topped televised music programs as well.

Their latest record, of the same name as their title song, features other popular songs including "I'm Sorry I Can't Smile For You" and "I Love You."

Girls' Generation remained in second place with their single "Oh!" and four-member boy group CNBLUE's "Alone" jumped a spot from last week to round off the top three.

Meanwhile, Girls' Generation's second full-length album "Oh!" maintained its hold on Mnet's weekly album chart for the third week in a row.

2AM and T-ara's first albums, titled "I Can't Let You Go" and "Absolute First Album," respectively, each stayed at last week's No. 2 and No.3 on the chart.

[REVIEW] Music show "M Countdown"

The eight K-pop idols hosting "M Countdown" [Mnet]

Cable channel music show "M Countdown" - Mnet, Thursday 6 p.m.

Three members from 2PM, two from 2AM, two from MBLAQ and one from CNBLUE. The revamped second season of "M Countdown" started with the introduction of its group of emcees -- the eight Korean pop idols nicknamed the 'MCD Guys'. The 'MCD Guys' resembled their show "M Countdown" in the sense that both are clusters of the hottest pop idols in town. Watching them working hard at hosting the show was adorable and entertaining, yet distracting, disorderly and over-the-top. While the eight emcees hopped around from the stage to where the audience were seated to the waiting rooms and to the lobby to interview the show's guests and introduce upcoming performances, video clips of stars congratulating the show for the airing of its new season and introductions of new segments for the show were continuously played in between. Consequently, there were moments when the main performances seemed to serve as bridges connecting the various elements on the show. Hence, the Thursday episode of "M Countdown" seemed to be the prologue and trailer to the new season, rather than a complete show.

However, that is not to say there were no new or entertaining attempts. The show displayed its efforts to make changes within its set format of being a music program by adding in a couple unique regular segments; one which will be hosted by [notable songwriter and producer] Bang Shi-hyuk and the other an attempt at creating mini music dramas. The first performance during [Bang Shi-hyuk's segment] B'shop in particular -- where Davichi sang "One Cup of Coffee", "When It's At Night" and "One Night Only" -- was unlike anything that viewers had seen on music shows. As the sole open-broadcast music ranking show airing on a cable music channel which contained no aspects different from the three music programs on Korea's public networks, it will be interesting to see how "M Countdown" progresses in the future. Will Mnet -- a channel which aired more reality shows than music programs -- be able to show something 'beyond music' through its new season?

Eight K-pop idols to host Mnet music show

Idol group 2PM member Nichkhun [10Asia]

Eight Korean pop idols -- namely Nichkhun, Junho, Chansung (of 2PM), Jo Kwon, Jinwoon (2AM), Kang Min-hyuk (C.N.Blue), Lee Joon and G.O. (MBLAQ) -- have been selected to host cable music channel Mnet's weekly music show starting Thursday.

Mnet explained yesterday that the popular idol group members -- newly nicknamed "MCD GUYZ" -- will team into groups of three or fours and take turns co-hosting popular music show "M countdown" each week.

"These eight singers are hot stars and icons who currently represent Korea's pop music scene," Mnet's chief producer Kim Ki-woong was quoted as saying. "We believe these guys are the perfect fit in delivering the current K-pop trend to viewers and that is why we selected them as emcees."

The producer further explained that "M countdown" aims to be "a global music show" and plans to display trendy and experimental performances every week, giving viewers something unique and special to watch in each episode.

The "MCD GUYZ" will host their first show tomorrow.
