Singer Kim Jang-hoon continues his PR work to claim Korea’s sovereignty over Dokdo Islets in the East Sea. The singer/activist will run a video ad on Dokdo Islets and the East Sea at Time Square in New York, U.S.A. on March 1st. The 30-second ad will be run twice in an hour, amounting to 48 rounds of ads a day. Kim and Prof. Seo Kyung-deok, PR specialist and producer of Dokdo ads, have signed a contract to run the ad for four months initially and may extend the contract based on the responses from local citizens. They expect the PR effect to be quite effective, as the ad will be run on the giant TV screen usually reserved for CNN news bulletin.
All expenses related to running the ad will be paid for by Kim. The date when the ad will be introduced for the first time, March 1st, is when Korean citizens rose up against Japanese colonial occupiers in 1910, which makes the ad campaign more meaningful. Both Kim and Prof. Seo have been involved in several Dokdo Islets PR campaigns, including the production of documentary film “I’m Sorry, Dokdo,” and running advertisements on New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal.
