Korean idol group SHINee has been named Asian New Artiste of the Year at the 2nd Singapore Entertainment Awards (SEA), according to their agency SM Entertainment on Tuesday.
SM announced in a press release that the boy band was handed the award at the ceremony, held at Marina Bay Floating Platform in Singapore on March 13.
SHINee was the only Korean artist to win this year at the SEA, which is hosted by Singapore Press Holdings' Chinese media and crowns the best Asian music talents in a total of 24 categories.
The group performed a series of their hit singles including "Older Girl, You're So Pretty", "Jojo" and "Ring Ding Dong" at the awards show, which was attended by numerous Asian stars including Singaporean-Chinese singer JJ Lin and Hong Kong singer and actor Eason Chan.
The quintet also gave an outdoor concert the following day at local shopping mall IMM, performing in front of some 3,000 fans.
The SEA ceremony will be broadcast throughout Asia including China, Hong Kong and Australia in early April via Singaporean cable channel Star Hub.
SHINee -- composed of Jonghyun, Taemin, Onew, Minho and Key -- debuted in 2008 with their first mini-album "Replay" and enjoyed a successful comeback last year with the third mini-album "2009, Year Of Us" release in October.
