K-pop idol group Wonder Girls will be the new face of mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson in the Asia-Pacific region, according to their agency JYP Entertainment on Wednesday.

The announcement was made last Friday by Sony Ericsson's Asia Pacific head Hiro at the 2010 Sony Ericsson Media Conference held in Singapore.

He explained that the girls, who will be promoting the brand in several countries including Korea, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, "are perfect to be the models for the brand since they have made a successful crossover to the United States and topped charts with their songs."

"We are happy to have been picked to promote a brand that we feel is comfortable and easy to use. We will work hard to fulfill this position," the Wonder Girls were quoted as saying.

The girls had kicked off their activities last month, giving a presentation regarding online marketing and performing at the Sony Ericsson Marketing Conference in China. They are currently in Singapore shooting for advertisements, press conferences and presentations.

The Wonder Girls, composed of five members including newcomer Lim who recently replaced Mimi, made their debut in 2007 with their first single album "The Wonder Begins."

The group, who have enjoyed a successful career in Korea, placed their U.S. debut single "Nobody" at No. 76 on the Billboard Hot100 last October, making them the first Korean artists to be placed on the chart in its 115-year history.
