Kim A-joong to host 2010 BaekSang Arts Awards

Korean actress Kim A-joong has been chosen to host the 46th annual BaekSang Arts Awards on Friday.

"We selected Kim to host the event because she has had an active career in the entertainment industry. She has hosted the show for the past two years and we believe she won't have any trouble on stage," explained an official with the event.

"I am honored to have been given a chance to emcee this prestigious event. I feel great responsibility to do my best to live up to the name of the awards ceremony to commemorate the year’s best films, TV shows and people in the entertainment industry," Kim was quoted as saying.

The actress will co-host the event, set to air on KBS at 8 p.m. today, with TV personality Lee Hwi-jae.

The BaekSang Arts Awards was established by Chang Key-young, founder of the Hankook Ilbo Newspaper, which first took place in 1965 to recognize the best in film, TV and theater.

Kim is a familiar face to the small screen through her many commercials. She made her debut in 2004 in a cellular phone advertisement has since starred in numerous dramas and movies.

Her most notable roles include daily KBS drama "Bizarre Bunch" and "The Accidental Couple." She later gained fame throughout Asia with her lead role in 2006 film "200 Pounds Beauty."
